I love to read. I have so many wonderful memories of reading from when I was a little girl: curled up in my parent’s window seat with my parents and brother, reading stories before bed; my Dad reading us The Hobbit when we were a bit older; and my Mom reading Harry Potter aloud to me in the hospital when I was in my early twenties! I have always loved books, and when our little girl was born, I knew I wanted to try to pass that love of reading along to her.

It seems that every time I open the weather app on my phone, it’s filled with grey clouds, and big fat rain drops. Okay, so maybe they aren’t big rain drops, but the days with rain definitely seem to outnumber the days with the little sun peeking out from behind a cloud! It’s that time of year where we have cozy mornings at home doing crafts, playing games, and make believing. Those are some of our family’s favorite things to do on rainy days … but sometimes we feel the need to get out and explore new things! Elfie 2016: Week 1

I know that not everyone loves Elf on the Shelf. Some think he/she is a bit creepy, and some just don’t have the time to be posing an elf every night before bed. Both concerns are incredibly valid, and have definitely crossed my mind! We have not taught our daughter any of the backstory about Elf on the Shelf – we just told her that Elfie has magic, and she often comes out to play while we are sleeping!

Every morning Baby E gets up and searches for Elfie. I hear her squeal when she finds Elfie, and she usually has a conversation with Elfie (for example, answering “Thank you Elfie!” to a note Elfie left telling her to have fun at The Nutcracker!) Despite the time it takes each night … I just cannot stop a tradition that brings such genuine happiness and amazement to my daughter’s life!
