Pigs, Dragons & a Superhero Princess: Chapter Books we love for our 6-year old

I love books. Especially children’s books. I’m always on the hunt for new stories to read at bedtime with my eldest daughter. She just turned 6, and has become interested in chapter books lately. I’m so excited that we have started reading chapter books together: a chance to delve into a longer story, build an attachment to the characters, and look forward to picking up where you left off the night before!

With this recent sunshine and heat, it feels like summer is finally here. Summer is one of my favourite times of year (the other favourite is Christmas!) and it’s partly because of all of the events and festivities around town. My poor husband … I think he must spend a good chunk of time every morning accepting the iPhone calendar invites I send him, with all of the fun events that I want to check out as a family. But we love our weekend explorations!

Here are some of the festivals and events I’m hoping to check out with my family this summer. Hopefully you might enjoy some of them too! If I’ve missed a fun family-friendly event please let me know, and I’ll create a calendar invite for my husband ASAP! :)

Spring Festivals & Events for Families

This post was originally published on Victoria Moms Blog.

Beautiful pink blossoms are starting to pop up on trees all over town, and I’m pretty sure that was the sun we saw peeking out through the clouds today. Spring is in the air! As the weather gets warmer, one of my family’s favourite things to do on the weekend is explore local events and festivals. Spring is a great time for local events, and Victoria and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer!

Here are some of the family-friendly events and festivals that are coming up in the next few months. I can’t wait to head out to these events with my family, and hope that you might enjoy them with your family as well. Do you know of any festivals or events that I’ve missed? I’d love to hear them!

It seems that every time I open the weather app on my phone, it’s filled with grey clouds, and big fat rain drops. Okay, so maybe they aren’t big rain drops, but the days with rain definitely seem to outnumber the days with the little sun peeking out from behind a cloud! It’s that time of year where we have cozy mornings at home doing crafts, playing games, and make believing. Those are some of our family’s favorite things to do on rainy days … but sometimes we feel the need to get out and explore new things! If you’re looking for ways to get out of the house, here are our family’s Top 10 favorite rainy day outings:

9 Reasons to Build Your Own Wooden Dollhouse

If you’re thinking of making a big homemade gift for your child, such as a wooden dollhouse … I would urge you to go for it. It may seem daunting, but I can assure you that the benefits far outweigh the challenges. Last Christmas, my Dad and I made Baby E a homemade wooden kitchen. It was amazing, and she still plays with it almost every day. This year, I wanted to tackle another DIY gift: a dollhouse! With a lot of help from both my Dad and Mom, we did it.
