Birthday Gift Ideas for a 7-year old

I can’t even believe I’m writing this, but our eldest daughter will be 7 soon. 7!! How did that even happen?! She’s at the age where she has a few items on her birthday wish list that she would be ecstatic to receive. The other suggestions are mine.

If you happen to be shopping for a gift for a 7-year old sometime in the future, here are some things I know would be a hit with my girl! And who am I kidding, this list is for future me as well. One day I’ll be looking for a gift for a 7-year old and I’ll have no idea what a 7-year old enjoys anymore!! Hopefully this list can help us both.

Walkie Talkies: This is one of the items on our daughter’s wish list, and it’s such a fun idea!

Roller skates: We won’t be getting roller skates for this birthday, but I think they would be a big hit! Our daughter loves her bike and scooter, and I think would enjoy this challenge.

Chapter books/series: We read together every night before bed. While our daughter still loves a good picture book, she is also starting to really enjoy chapter books. We’ve read a few amazing ones (see my blog post Pigs, Dragons & a Superhero Princess: Books we love for our 6-year old) and I’ve researched a few more I’d like to try: Zoey and Sassafras Dragons and Marshmallows by Asia Citro (the first book in the series is currently being offered as a free Kindle ebook during COVID-19!), Sofia Martinez by Jacquline Jules, and Daisy Dawson by Steve Voake.

Walking/Talking/Somersaulting Puppy: This is another item off our daughter’s wish list. Her sister received a puppy toy for Christmas that walks and barks, and our eldest would love to have her own!

Activity Books: Activity books are always a hit with our daughter! She has recently become very interested in fashion design, so I found this Usborne book – Drawing, Doodling and Coloring: Fashion – that I hope she will enjoy. Our daughter is also still a huge fan of Usborne’s Sticker Dolly Dressing books. Any sort of activity books are great for taking to restaurants, car rides, or to keep the kids busy outside on the picnic blanket.

Bike accessories: Our daughter looooves to ride her bike: whether it be just up and down the driveway, or on family bike rides. Therefore any sort of bike accessory would make an excellent birthday gift: bike bell, mirror, streamers, basket, and so on.

Anything Barbie: Our daughter is a huge fan of Barbies, as many young girls are. Therefore Barbie dolls and accessories would always be a popular gift: Barbie (& Ken) clothes and shoes (especially shoes for the flat footed Barbies who just don’t have the same selection as the high heeled Barbies!), extra furniture for the Barbie dream house (we never seem to have enough beds for everyone!), vehicles, and items such as strollers, high chairs, plastic food, etc.

Art supplies: Both of our girls love to be creative. Our eldest loves art, crafts, and DIY projects. Any supplies that can be used creatively are an amazing gift: paints, markers, plain and coloured paper, small canvases, stamps, fabric paint, and so on!

Baby Dolls & Accessories: Both girls are very into babies/dolls these days. They love taking their babies for walks to the mailbox, feeding them, putting them down for naps, and cuddling. Doll accessories always make a great gift and encourage imaginative play: clothes, bottle, food dish and spoon, blanket/crib, stroller or grocery cart, etc.

Outdoor Toys: Our girls are happiest outside. They love riding their bikes and scooters, and playing in the yard. Amazing gifts for outside play could include: water table, hula hoops, bubbles, swing, plastic table and chair, and so on. We recently purchased a second hand plastic kitchen to keep outside on the patio, and both girls absolutely love playing with it!!

I hope this list is helpful if you are searching for the perfect gift for a 7-year old girl. I still can’t believe I’ll soon be the Mom of a 7-year old!
