Yesterday, the temperature dropped below 20 degrees. I even saw strange wet drops falling from the sky! And 2 days from now will be the last day of August… As much as I don’t want to believe it, summer is drawing to a close! It won’t be long before we are trading our flip flops for boots, and our sun hats for umbrellas.
As Fall approaches, I’ve started putting together a list of festivals and events for our family to explore. If you’re like us, and love to check out different activities around town each weekend, I’m hoping you might find this list helpful.
As I learn about new events, I will add them here. Please let me know of any events I might have missed. And … since I LOVE Christmas so much, I’ll likely do another separate post with just Christmas events for families!
SATURDAYS, MAY through OCTOBER, 2016
Moss Street Market, 10am-2pm
The Moss Street market is always a fun place to wander around on a sunny Saturday! You can find various fresh fruits/veggies/crafts/art for sale, yummy lunch options, and often live music. We used to live close by, and loved exploring this market on Saturday mornings! There are two little playgrounds (one right within the market) and one around back to help keep little ones entertained as well.
AUGUST 26th – 28th & SEPTEMBER 2nd – 5th, 2016
Admission is free for this fun family event. Come out and enjoy the delicious food, and the live music and dancing! There are also activities for families such as face painting and arts and crafts.

I remember loving the Saanich Fair as a kid, but haven’t been in years! Perhaps this September will be the first year we take Baby E to the fair. Aside from the rides, I think she would love the performances and kids activities.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th, 2016
One Day 2016, 10am-3pm
“The purpose of One Day is to celebrate the diversity in our community through the planning of a free, family-oriented celebration of everyone in our community”. Harvest Fall Threshing at Heritage Acres, 9am-4pm
We’ve never been to this event, but apparently it’s been running since 1974 and “is always a popular event for children of all ages from 2 to 102”. The event includes threshing, steam engine/blacksmith/tractor demonstrations, train rides, and food from the Pantry Kitchen!

Pumpkinfest is held every weekend in October (October 8th-30th) and includes live entertainment, face painting, kids games, hay rides, u-pick pumpkins, train rides, corn maze, playground, petting farm, and more. We went to this event with friends last year, and had a wonderful time! The only thing I would say is that the kids haunted house and some of the spooky parts of the train ride were a bit too spooky for our little one…!!!

Halloween Madness at Heritage Acres, 4-8pm
I’ve heard from friends that this is a fabulous event for families! The event is supposed to have many Halloween things that aren’t too scary for the little ones, as well as pumpkin carving, face painting, make your own scarecrow, haunted house, and lots more.
