For my birthday last week, my husband surprised me with brunch at Jam Cafe! Neither of us had been to Jam Cafe before, but my husband had done some research on brunch places in Victoria, and Jam Cafe looked like one of the best!
Jam Cafe is located at 542 Herald Street, Victoria B.C. We went on a Friday morning around 10:30am, and there was already a lineup! It was a beautiful sunny day, so we were happy to line up outside and enjoy our time together (toddler-free!). We probably waited 30-45 minutes for our little table for two … but we both agree that it was worth it!
Breakfast is served all day at Jam Cafe. The menu had lots to choose from, and our server was very helpful in determining what we might enjoy the most. I decided on the Blackstone Benedict – eggs benedict served with sugar cured bacon and roasted tomatoes. I added avocado at the suggestion of our server, and it came with hash browns and a few pieces of fruit. It was a generous portion, and I have to say it was delicious. That sugar cured bacon … yum!!!
My husband ordered The Little Charlie, described in the menu as “our version of a hash with crumbled biscuit, hash browns, diced ham, green onions, cheddar and sausage gravy topped with two sunny side eggs”. Our server explained that the full order is a MASSIVE amount of food, and unless he was feeling incredibly ambitious, he may want to go for the Little Charlie, the half order. My husband is a good eater, but he took her advice and went for the Little Charlie. It was the perfect amount!
We both really enjoyed our meals, and the atmosphere of Jam Cafe was young, vibrant, and fun. When you get your bill, they even give you lollipops! Less than a week later, we were looking for somewhere to have a bite to eat, and my husband’s first suggestion was Jam Cafe! We definitely look forward to going back one day.
